Crewel Summer

Not Bananarama but the next best thing: an exploration of fashion around me.

For my next act, I’ll be upcycling these sweaters into new garments.

I’m thinking dresses, bikinis, mittens.

Cowls, cowls everywhere, and not a tailored suit. Soft, draped silhouettes are walking down the runway for fall ready to wear 2013.

Let’s talk about patterns! The House of Holland Spring 2013 collection had checks, florals and tie dye!

Midterms are turning into finals.

…be back in December.

I got Diane von Furstenberg for my 70’s decade inspiration!!! Yes! Look at that sexy woman!

I’m entering a design competition for my school. We hold a fashion show for student work each year and this year, to celebrate my college’s 50th anniversary, there is a design competition to design a garment inspired by a style icon from the past five decades. Tricky part is: we don’t get to choose the icon, only the decade.

Seeing as how I LOVE polyester and disco, I knew the 70’s were calling my name. (Okay, I love the IDEA of polyester… no.. I love everything about vintage polyester, but that’s for a different day.)

…or maybe I’ll pick the 60’s, although I don’t really want Twiggy. She is a muse, but not my muse.
